Community action

Alongside the work of Govanhill Housing Association and its subsidiary, Govanhill Community Development Trust, a significant number of organisations are involved in supporting and developing the local community.  Most are based in Govanhill, while others are located elsewhere but provide services in the area. Learn more about community and voluntary organisations in Govanhill and how you can get involved in the work they do.

The Association and GCDT are community controlled with boards made up of democratically elected local people.  This ensures that local people are in control of how resources are spent and their voices can be heard in local planning.  If you are interested in finding out more then please get in touch.

Govanhill Community Action (GoCA) meets 6 times per year and acts as a forum for local organisations involved in community and voluntary activity.  Membership is open to local organisations, tenant and residents groups, and other constituted structures.  Meetings take place in Samaritan House at 6pm on the first Thursday of the even months of the year, February, April, June and so on.

There is also an active local community council – Crosshill and Govanhill Community Council.  Community Councils are elected from among local residents and exist to promote their area and help to make it a better place to live. Crosshill and Govanhill Community Council has (up to) 15 elected volunteers. Meetings take place on the second Monday of each month in Samaritan House and are also attended by City Councillors, Community Police and representatives of other agencies present in the area.  C&GCC website.
