These is so much happening within the Govanhill International Festival & Carnival over the two weeks between 2nd and 14th of August that it may not be that easy to quickly identify which events are suitable for the whole family. And so below are the family picks – events and activities where people of all ages, especially the young ones, will find something for themselves.

Thu 4 August, 2–6pm, The Deep End,

Ahead of the Govanhill Parade & Carnival there will be a banner making workshop at the Deep End. Join us to design and create banners that feel reflective of your group and the campaigns you’re involved with. We can’t wait to see your banners on the Govanhill carnival parade!
STORYTELLING FESTIVAL: SKY ON A HILL
Thur, 4 August, 4–7.30pm, Hidden Gardens Join our storytelling events for kids in the afternoon and an evening of readings, performances, installations & workshops.

The famous Govanhill Carnival Parade is back for the fifth time – more colourful and vibrant than ever! Drummers, jugglers, brass bands, roller skaters, dancers & all the brilliant community groups. We’ll be making ourselves heard as we walk to Queen’s Park where the Carnival will begin!
Sat, 6 August, 2–4pm Queen’s Park
The Carnival will celebrate the spirit and vibrancy of Govanhill with music, stalls, food, and activities for all the family. We promise you a concert showcasing the incredible talent and culture which makes this city so unique. With art workshops, face painting, games, bouncy castles and much more to get involved in on the day – there’s something for everyone!
ROMA SISTERS TOGETHER!
Sun 7 August, 2–4pm, Govanhill Park
To mark the end of their wellbeing project ‘Roma Sisters Together’, Romano Lav are throwing a Roma fashion show party in the park! The women will be showing off their incredible clothing and accessories that they’ve made! Featuring live music from local Roma musicians Opre Roma.

THE BAT. LAB. [OUTDOOR CINEMA]

TALL TALES OF GOVANHILL
Wed, 10 August, 6–8pm, Bee’s Knees Cafe
Join us for a magical evening, celebrating the stories that make up our community. Storytellers from some of the different cultures of Govanhill will share their myths, legends, and tall, tall tales with you. This event is suitable for ages 12 + (under 16s need to be accompanied by an adult).
