Govanhill International Festival and Carnival

The Govanhill International Festival and Carnival is back once again and this year we’re arriving bigger and bolder than ever before. Now in our sixth year, we’re thrilled to bring you a programme of events fusing together art, heritage and community activism. This two-week long showcase of music, talks, walks, film, art exhibitions, workshops, and activities for children is a testament to the amazing cultural, ethnic and religious diversity that exists right here in Govanhill. We’re also delighted to be able to say that the Govanhill Parade and Carnival will be making a colourful return to the festival after last year’s biggest turnout to date! See the programme here:

Govanhill Food Stories

Govanhill Food Stories – 13 August – 12 – 4pm – Bat.Lab. next to Govanhill Picture House, G42 8SL. Govanhill Food Stories edition of Govanhill Community Market will celebrate Govanhill’s multicultural community’s stories through food as part of the Govanhill International Festival and the Year of Stories 2022. Grab your picnic and a blanket and join us on 13th August for a picnic in The Gardens! The day will be packed with free activities suitable for all ages. Hop on the smoothie bike with Urban Roots, visit our herb tea café, discover useful plants in the gardens, have a dance with the Boogie Butterfly, find out about food miles with Glasgow Science Centre, or join a guided tour of the gardens! Women on Wheels (SCIO) is a community cycling hub for women. A service designed and led by women, they deliver a range of cycling activities to get women back on a bike or onto a bike for the very first time.

COMMUNITY CONSULTATIONS

Research into ethnicity and access to housing

Take part in research by CEMVO Scotland, Heriot-Watt University and Shelter Scotland to hear from ethnic minority participants who are struggling to access affordable housing. It will involve an interview which can be done at the CEMVO office or via video call, depending on their preference. Each participant will get £20 for their insight and time. Identities are completely anonymised and data strictly confidential.
